“Fragile Figure” symbolizes the map of the Greater Mekong Subregion containing Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and parts of China and Vietnam. Turned sideways, it resembles the figure of a bird with a broken wing. None of these countries seems to be strong enough to freely fly up out of the economic and political problems.

Dr. Axel Feuss

The graphic of “Fragile Figure” originates from my previous work “Billionaire Game,” which I did for a group show at Singapore Management University (SMU) Gallery, Singapore, in January 2010.

Billionaire Game is a humorous, metaphorical, and political representation of how these outside interests could come to affect or rule the GMS.  On a dartboard of the GMS turned sideways, the winner is the one who catches the ENTIRE bird/region, with all of its 6 parts/countries.
