About the project:
The research program AltLife-SSEA focuses on alternative life projects of development in South and Southeast Asia: “Rethinking post-development from the perspective of ‘emplaced collectives’ in rural areas.”
All over the world, rising social inequalities and a disenchantment with Western modernity and development have been prompting experiments in alternative ways of living. Climate change and the necessary “environmental transition” have only made these projects increasingly necessary and more urgent. In post-development theories, indigenous and local knowledge appears to offer more sustainable ways of interacting with the world. AltLife-SSEA explores “alternative life projects” in the context of rural South and Southeast Asia, especially in India, Cambodia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
